MU Loses to Corban in Three

SALEM, Ore. – The Multnomah University volleyball team fought a hard battle on the road in a three set loss (11-25, 18-25, 17-25) to Corban University on Saturday night as the Lions search for the first win in the Cascade Collegiate Conference.
 
The loss move MU to 1-9 on the season and 0-9 in the Cascade Conference. The Warriors get above .500 in CCC play with the victory, improving to 5-4, 7-8 overall on the season.
 
How it Happened: Corban used a .417 attacking percentage to cruise past the Lions in the first set with a score of 25-11. The Warriors earned six straight points to open up the set 6-2 lead before adding another six-point run later to take a commanding 17-6 lead.
 
MU continued to let the Warriors string together point after point falling behind in set two 8-2. The Lions fought back to within two points of Corban after a kill by Hannah Anderson and two straight errors by the Warriors. Anderson later added a block along with Devyn Sigurdson, bring the score to 13-12 in favor of Corban. With an 18-17 lead, the Warriors secured the next seven out of eight points winning the second set 25-18.
 
Despite being down two sets, the Lions showed some life in the final set of the match as the battled to a 9-7 lead. MU would eventually see that lead slip away as the Warriors forced two seven-point runs to take back momentum and secure the sweep.
 
By the Numbers: In her first appearance for the Lions, Anderson recorded two kills and three blocks as they helped the Lions to one of their best performances at the net. Patty Batoon led the team in kills with 10 while Kiana Miller and Miranda Halverson had 11 and seven digs respectively. Marissa Rhodes finished with 15 assists on the night.
 
For the Warriors, Amber Parker had a match high 17 kills with 12 digs while Madison Mclain orchestrated Corbans offense with 28 assists. Haley Wells also had a match high with 17 digs.
 
From the Coach: "Our defense did a great job tonight, getting balls up and providing more opportunities for our offense," said head coach Jenna Bouey, "Miller passed really well in serve receive and led the way in digs and Schmillen had a few huge saves for us.
 
Coming up Next: MU will stay on the road as they face Northwest Christian in Eugene, Ore., on Saturday for a 3 p.m. match.
